Dadra and Nagar Haveli are a centrally controlled area. It is located near the west coast and consists of two distinct sections. Dadra is surrounded by the state of Gujarat, and the city haveli lies on the borders of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The Union Territories cover an area of 491 square kilometers.
Dadra and Nagar Haveli have immense natural beauty. The most interesting aspects about this central region are lush green forests, riverside, distant mountains and spectacular kaleidoscopes of flora and fauna.
Dadra and Nagar Haveli were a Portuguese colony. It was canceled by the Portuguese in 1779 and became part of independent India in 1954. By 1961 it was operating independently and was self-governing. Presently, both the Houses of the Indian Parliament represent Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
